48v DC Solar Battery Wiring Diagrams

Below are suggested wiring topologies for connecting batteries in series to produce a 48v power supply for the solar air conditioner. Note that the batteries, as well as the solar panels, should be connected to the charge controller. The DC air conditioner always connects to the batteries. See also solar battery options.

When using 12v batteries make sure they are deep-cycle type. Marine batteries are not usually true deep cycle batteries. If the battery lists a CCA rating it is probably not a true deep cycle battery.

Note that 4 x 12v batteries are wired in a series to achieve 48v, there can be 2 or more 48v series of 4, wired in parallel to each other.

  6v batteries are typically golf cart batteries, which are excellent for solar or DC powered air conditioner applications.

Note that golf cart batteries also may come in 8v which can also be used in a 48v air conditioner system, in that case you would use 6 or 12 (or any multiple of 6) of them wired in series/parallel similar to the way 6v batteries are wired.
